Eliezer Kanal is a technical manager at CERT, focused on applying machine learning techniques to the cybersecurity domain. His team has contributed to a wide variety of projects, including developing statistical visualization tools to assist with malware reverse engineering, developing metrics for the efficacy of cyber attack forecasting techniques, automatic identification of true positive/false positive labels for static code analysis vulnerabilities, and automated classification of netflow traffic types, among others. He has also functioned as one of SEI's experts on blockchain technology, partnering with researchers at CMU to develop more secure development languages for the creation of blockchain applications.
Prior to joining CERT, Kanal worked at Highmark Inc., where he led a team of analysts and statisticians in providing data and statistical analysis for the entire Health Plan Operations division. He also worked at PNC Bank as a quantitative analyst in the corporate risk department, and as a postdoctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon University studying behavioral neuroscience.
Eliezer earned his PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh focusing on neural signal processing. He is a member of the IEEE and the AAAI.
